SJP students and their allies are asking the University of Rochester to explore partnerships with Palestinian scholars, researchers, artists, educators, and students. These partnerships could take many forms including but not limited to:

• A scholarship program to bring Palestinian students whose universities have been demolished to the UR to finish their degrees.

• Visiting faculty who specialize in Middle Eastern studies.

• An online conference that includes Palestinian scholars.

The University of Rochester has created these opportunities in other wartime circumstances. For example, they provided opportunities for Sudanese and Ukrainian students during wartime.

As of May 6, 2024, all 12 of Gaza’s universities have been destroyed.

All public education schools are closed; over 80% are severely damaged or destroyed.
